Ain't Misbehavin'

The audition Tuesday went well, or at least I felt good about it. Some days that is all you can hope for. Haven't heard back from them and I really don't expect to and that's okay. Really it is. I swear.

Had to pass on another audition, my work schedule would not have worked with their rehearsal schedule at all. I can make some adjustments but I'm not going to quit a paying job for a non-paying acting gig. Jus' don't make sense, eh?

Tuesday's audition was my first singing audition BTW. So, Yay ME! Another milestone. I've gone from never having sung in public to singing for people to auditioning for a musical in little over a month. Not too shabby.

oy

So the generally mild frustration and malaise I've been feeling with the acting thing has became a more acute in the last week. Specifically I've grown MORE frustrated with the scene from the Tuesday group for a number of reasons, not necessarily least among them being my work... oh well.

The frustration is hardly enough to make me quit. I do realize that how I feel this minute is not necessarily how I will feel forever. Doesn't make this moment any more fun though does it?? In all honesty I think it's all part of the process, you just have to keep trudging through.

Taking in the EX Caminos at The Knitting Factory 74 Leonard Street, between Broadway and Church St. (212-219-3132).. starring the one and only Michael Lengyel.

one of THOSE days

Trying to get to the gym I swear... but all I really want to do is curl up with my Playstation2. ARRRRGH! Need a haircut too. It sucks having to take care of business and stuff some days. *grins*

Looks like I have an audition Tuesday, so yay me. Also I need to sit down and read the script for Reason for Waking, haven't done so yet because well it isn't all up yet. Not really up for reading it and trying to decide whether or not to commit to it until I see the whole script. Once I see it all I'll talk to the producer and see what the shooting schedule will be like. My job is a big factor in this... I won't just re-arrange the universe for every thing that comes along. I will definitely have to feel good about it and do some talking to people.

Hell IS other people...

Frustrated with the acting thing right now. Not necessarily with acting... it's hard to explain in a public forum like this, i.e. I don't want to get too specific at group level. I'm actually happy with my progress, getting enough nibbles to keep my happy, self-absorbed, ass spinning merrily along. I think I'll save the details for my more or less private blog.

Action Hero

Working on four different scenes and a new monologue for acting class. There's The Jane Martin piece Connections, P.S. Your Cat is Dead, A Few Good Men and the new scene is from The Tiger. The scene from P.S. Your Cat is Dead is probably the biggest challenge if only because it requires I have a Brooklynese accent. The character is VERY Italian. Bought putty from the costume shop to change the shape of my very Irish nose. Yeah... I'm one of THOSE people.

Thinking of looking for a classical monologue later this month. Finally finished my first mass mailing. It took me a month to get it all out but I sent out at least 250 headshot/resume. We'll see what happens.

The singing class is going well, still working out the throat infection I had two weeks ago though. But overall I'm very happy with it. Working on a new up tempo song for auditions, Come Fly With Me. I went and picked up two of Josh Groban's song books... yeah , yeah I know. Most of his catalogue sounds like it belongs in a musical plus he is a baritone so I should be able to wrangle with his song choices.

Got an email from someone who saw my headshot/resume on NYCasting. Wants me to be in his indie film. It's kind of an action adventure with a lot of psychological drama. We talked for twenty minutes on the phone Friday night. He sent me a link to the script today so I can start reading it. I'll do the film if I can arrange work with the shooting schedule.

Caved in and bought my tickets for Revenge of the Sith Wednesday night... what the hell. It'll be much more fun with the geek squad faithful anyway.

I do feel a little bad for RoTS, Batman Begins has already supplanted it on the big marquee on the Toys-R-Us at Times Square.

not so bad, bad news!

Got a call tonight from the Assistant Director of the movie I was supposed to be an extra in tomorrow, The Picture of Dorian Grey. The shoot has been rewritten, specifically the characters they needed have extras have been written out. Not that I mind, AT ALL. He said they would have my resume/headshot and would call me if they need anything later in the shoot.

Honestly it's a blessing. I'm working on three different scenes for acting class and really need to get some work done. One of the scenes requires a brooklynese dialect and I really need to work on that as well. Also have a new monologue to learn and still need to work on the other two as well... wouldn't mind finding a classical piece either. I could use some singing rehearsal as well. Need to pick up laundry and make groceries and hit the gym as well.

OY!

Film School

We finally began filming in my Acting On Film class. We taped as well. I did my monologue from Sweet Bird Of Youth. I've already transferred it to DVD so as soon as I can Quicktime it I will post it.

Buyer Beware

The call back went well. They have already cast the part with the guy from last year but it looks like I am their stand by should something happen. The casting director/producer gave me a copy of the script. He sent me an email that same night thanking me again and saying that he would like me to come to some rehearsals in the summer so I get to know the show and the cast.

Had a call from a casting agent but it turned out to be a trick. After some asking around I found out that they are NOT a legitimate casting agency but instead invite people in to interview in order to sell them on their own school.

Did get a call from an independent feature that wants me to come in Wednesday to be an extra.

Call back!

I got a call back from the audition I went on Thursday night. A conditional one, anyway. There's a good chance the guy who played the role last year may reprise it this year but the producer wants to have a strong back-up so has asked me to come in a read with some of the actresses they are considering. There's also a possibility the actor may ONLY be able to do it for the festival in Philly, and the producer would like to take it to other cities.

Hey, it's something.

The also-impressive bit was I was actually able to get the night off from work in order to go! And didn't have to lie or call in sick! Yay me!
ALSO...

I just ran into SMALLVILLE's John Glover on the subway, here in NYC. I hesitated at first not wanting to disturb him but then decided to stop and say hullo. I told him I loved his work in 'Love, Valour, Compassion'. He was VERY gracious and asked if I was an actor, where I was from. We chatted about New Orleans for a minute when I mentioned I had moved from there to NYC. I mentioned knowing Craig of Kryptonsite, who he spoke very highly of, mentioning that C had come to his charity walk.

Very nice man, very gracious, a class act!

That Is The Question

Sorry for the lack of substantive entries of late. Very busy and I'm not really even doing anything yet.

The audition Thursday night went very well. The casting director actually interrupted me before I could finish my monologue. He gave me sides and have me go out and rehearse with one of the young ladies there. He auctioned for him, he gave us a little direction then we did it again. She was dismissed and I went out to work on more sides with two girls. We performed them for him then they switched roles and we did it again.

That was it for me. On the way out he made sure that I had read the particulars on the play and said they would be in touch. Obviously I feel really good about it. It would be part of the Philly Fringe Festival in September..
